The Bible Calendar...What time is it?

Ever wonder what system the Bible uses to determine an hour, day, month and year?

It is such a beautiful and simple system that our Father in Heaven uses, the Father of Lights.

Jas 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

1Co 14:33 For Elohim is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all assemblies of the saints.

What is a Biblical hour?

Joh 11:9 YHW'shuaH answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.

Act 2:15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

Joh 1:39 He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.

Act 10:3 He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of YHWH coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.

Mat 20:5 Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise.
Mat 20:6 And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?
Mat 20:12 Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day.

What is a Biblical day?

Gen 1:4 And Elohim saw the light, that it was good: and Elohim divided the light from the darkness.
Gen 1:5 And Elohim called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

Each day creation starts and ends with morning. He created during the day from morning until evening, the portion of light, then comes evening, then morning ends that day, and the next day starts.

Exo 16:23 And he said unto them, This is that which YHWH hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy Sabbath unto YHWH: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.

Exo 16 tells the people to prepare today and tomorrow morning starts the Sabbath. The Father of Lights starts each day with the dawning of light and the rising of the sun.

What is a Biblical Month?
The Month is determined by the moon. The first day of the Month is the first sunrise following the conjunction. In the Bible the word for month is Kodesh, which means new month.

Gen 1:14 And Elohim said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

Exo 12:2 This month [kodesh = new moon] shall be unto you the beginning of months [kodesh]: it shall be the first month of the year to you.

The Hebrew word for month is Kodesh, which means "new moon".

Here is a very accurate tool for checking the time of the New Moon for your location new moon calculator
While studying this I found it was so interesting to note that at the location of the conjunction (which is in a different location each month), at that location the new moon rises at the same time as the sunrise! Only the Father could orchestrate such beautiful timing to have the New Moon happen precisely at the moment of sunrise. Beautiful.

Interesting also to note, the full moon will Light our way and will often fall on the dates of the 3 Feasts He requires us to come together during the year.

What is a Biblical year?

The year is determined by the sun and moon and begins with the first New Moon following the Spring Equilux. The Equilux is near the Equinox, it is defined as the period of equal light.

from Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equinox
"The name "equinox" is derived from the Latin aequus (equal) and nox (night), because around the equinox, the night and day are approximately equally long." and Equilux, which may be different by a couple days, is explained as... "By convention, equiluxes are the days where sunrise and sunset are closest to being exactly 12 hours apart. "

Ex 12:2

To sum it up...
as defined by the Bible

The Day starts Day at sunrise
Night is the period of darkness
an Hour is one of 12 light portions of the Day
a Month starts with the New Moon
a Year starts with the first New Moon after the Spring Equilux.

As I write these short studies out I am aware they lack many of the verses available. But I prefer to present the base info to you and pray that you will pray on it and let our Father in Heaven lead you in the Word and many more wonderful truths along the path.

Mat 23:8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, the Messiah; and all ye are brethren.
Mat 23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
Mat 23:10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, the Messiah.
